ARTIST PROFILE
Rosalie Levi was born in Montreal in 1962, and as a teenager, moved to Ottawa with her family. She later went on
to Toronto as a young adult. It was here that she was trained, encouraged and inspired by a variety of artistic mentors.
Introduced to clay sculpting at the Leah Poslun Center in Toronto, Rosalie's primary subjects were live models. From
the beginning, recreating the anatomy of the human form and portraiture came easily to her. Two years later, Rosalie returned
to her home in Montreal, where she attended classes at the Saidye Bronfman Center for the Arts. To her surprise, there were
no live models to work from. This forced her to take a different approach to her sculpture, and look within for inspiration.
Since the human form was familiar to her in the sculpting medium, her work took on a surreal effect that represented the human
form. Since then, she has worked on her own to create many pieces that reflect the human spirit, energy and the connectivity
to others.
She is presently living in St.Lazare, well known for their horses and trails. This has inspired her to create a
series on horses, Stallion's Pride being the first.
Rosalie has recently created a line of stunning sterling silver miniatures of her pieces, which can be worn as a
pendant or brooch.
Currently, she is exhibiting her work in Montreal and Toronto galleries.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My work is very fluid and sensual, expressing the energy inside the form and invoking the emotions of the observer.
In groupings, each subject flows one into the other, representing the strength and continuity of the human spirit.
